MATCH STORY

Revolutionizing European football in the 60’s and 70’s under Rinus Michels and the great Johan Cruyff, de Godenzonen have long maintained their dominance in Dutch football. But as the machinations of the game have changed, success on the international stage has become more fleeting in recent years. But things were different during the 2018/19 campaign. Under the guidance of Erik ten Hag, the side cruised through a group containing Bayern Munich, Benfica, and AEK without a loss. The reward waiting for them in the knockouts? Three-time defending champion Real Madrid, who would go on to win the first leg at Amsterdam ArenA 1-2. But the return leg at the famed Santiago BernabĂ©u went much different. Hakim Ziyech got the visitors off the mark in the 7th minute and David Neres Campos added a second 11 minutes later before Madrid pulled one back at the half hour mark. But I Lanceri picked up where the left off in the second half with Dušan TadiÄŤ and Lass Schöne tagged on another pair of goals to see their side into the quarters.

DESIGN STORY

The match side sports a pattern that emulates the club’s iconic away kits from 1988-1991. The reverse design is inspired by the club’s famous white strip with a red stripe and incorporating trios of Saint Andrew’s crosses as found on the city of Amsterdam’s flag.
