MATCH STORY

Despite taking a 2-0 lead into the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final, America was feeling some pressure. Though they were reigning champions, Las Aguilas had failed to secure a domestic title in two years. Meanwhile, their opponents Tigres were at the top of clausura table and were in the middle of a dominant stretch in the Mexican top flight. And when French hitman André-Pierre Gignac scored just over a half-hour into the match at the Azteca, it seemed like their title defense was on the line. But three minutes after stepping on the pitch, second-half substitute Michael Arroyo pulled America level in the match before Osvaldo Martínez put the tie out of reach four minutes from time. And as a result, the capital city club would lift their record sixth North American title.

DESIGN STORY

The match side depicts the North and South American continents, both of which are famously shown on the club’s crest. On the reverse is a design inspired by America’s iconic home kits worn from 1994 through 1996.
