MATCH STORY

For both sides in the 2022 English League Cup final, expectations were high. Each side would trade blows throughout regulation, but no breakthrough could be found. Fantastic saves, near misses, and even VAR all played their part in extending the deadlock through 90-minutes… and then an additional 30 more. Moments before the final whistle, the Blues subbed off man-of-the-match Eduoard Mendy for Kepa, a penalty specialist. The ensuing penalties were a complete 180 from the rest of the match, each side trading clinical goal after clinical goal. After seeing the first 10 players from each side bury their shot from the spot, it was the keepers’ turns to see if they could settle the tie. The Reds’ Caoimhin Kelleher — himself a backup to their normal starter, Alisson — converted first. That left the “specialist” Kepa to save his side’s hopes at the trophy. Instead, he skied it over the bar and handed the Reds’ their first trophy of 2022.

DESIGN STORY

The wristband’s match side is reminiscent of the Reds’ away 2021/22 away strip. Since there were no goals in the match to show stretched along its circumference, supporters will instead find all 11 rounds of the penalties that decided the title. The reverse features a design that takes its cues from the orangish accents found on this season’s primary kit that was worn in the final.
