Having been the home to one of the most successful sides in the league’s young history, it almost seemed impossible when Kansas City’s former two-time champion pro side was shuttered in 2017. But that didn’t damper the enthusiasm for the new side that sprung from the ruins in 2021, nor did the new team’s last place finish that season. But the currents changed in 2022 with a fifth-placed regular season finish and a run in the playoffs. A first-round upset away at Houston lead to a pairing against top-seeded Seattle in the semifinals. Again on the road as the underdogs, K.C. got off to a smashing start when Alex Loera gave the visitors a 4th-minute lead. Seattle, lead by the likes of Megan Rapinoe and Rose Lavelle, fought valiantly, a 63rd-minute strike from Kristen Hamilton sent the new Kansas City women’s side to their first ever final.
Design Story:
The winding design of the match side is reminiscent of the club crest, itself a representation of the Mighty Mississippi River. The reverse features a swirling pattern inspired by the club’s away kits during the 2022 season.
