Match Story:
Going into the tournament, any believed the U.S. wouldn’t struggle to escape Group C in South Africa. But after opening the tournament with two draws against England and Slovenia, a tricky final group match against Algeria remained with all four teams in the group still able to progress. A nervy 90 minutes would ensue, with both sides trading spurned chances and opportunities to seize their destinies. But it was star-man Landon Donovan who broke the deadlock, capping a 91st-minute counter attack by tucking away a spilled save from Clint Dempsey’s initial effort. Commentator Ian Darke captured the moment perfectly by excitedly asking, “Can you believe it?!”
Design Story:
The match side of the wristband is inspired by the faintly sashed-kit worn by the U.S. in South Africa. The reverse features a design dotted by the infamous vuvuzelas that punctuated each match at the tournament with the steady, never-ending bbwwwwrrrrrrraaaaaa.
