Match Story:
Despite having long been one of the most prominent clubs in Germany, silverware had proven elusive for Die Werkself. On five separate occasions they finished as runners up in the Bundesliga, and a lone DFB-Pokal title in the mid 90’s was all they had to show from four appearances in the final. But the 2023/24 campaign changed all that. Under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, the Black and Red striped men from Leverkusen went unbeaten all season in Germany. They won their first Bundesliga crown, snapped the longest winning streak in league history, the league’s first ever unbeaten campaign, plus hoisted the DFB-Pokal for a second time. And one of the most impressive wins during an exceptional season came at home against Bayern Munich, where a crushing 3-0 win symbolically ended Bayern’s 11-year run as champions.
Design Story:
The match side is inspired by the Die Schwarzroten’s famous black and red striped kits. On the reverse are rampant lions behind an embattled line, both of which come form Leverkusen’s city coat of arms.
