MATCH STORY

For the third knockout round in a row, Madrid entered the second leg of the 2022 Champions League semifinal facing an uphill battle. Just as it had been against PSG in the round of 16 and Chelsea in the quarterfinals, Real trailed Manchester City after a wild opening first leg that finished 4-3 to the Citizens. And when Riyad Mahrez doubled City’s lead with an opener deep in the second half, it seemed that another comeback would be out of reach for the Spanish champions. Well, nobody told that to Real’s Rodrygo, as the Brazilian tallied twice within a minute moments from the full-time whistle to shockingly send the tie to extra time. And there, the inevitable unfolded as Real completed their latest episode of “Groundhog Day” when Karim Benzema buried a penalty to send Real on to a final where they’d lift their 14th European Cup.

DESIGN STORY

The match side of the design melds together the home and away kits worn by Madrid during the 21/22 campaign. The reverse takes its inspiration from the upcoming 22/23 kits and the royal purple away strip they’ve frequently worn over the years.
