The expanded 2024 Copa América in the United States sure seemed like the last dance for the G.O.A.T. At 37 and with the previous Copa and the 2022 World Cup now in his back pocket, many predicted this tournament would be Messi’s last at the international level. But the reigning world champs didn’t seem like a side on a goodbye tour. They topped their group with a perfect record, before Ecuador took them to penalties in the quarterfinals and then telling Drake he’s “not like us” in the semifinal. Colombia, the only other side who looked like possible contenders all tournament, would be their reward in the final. After outlasting lengthy delays due to crowds, the two sides played out 90 scoreless minutes — Messi going down injured around the hour mark didn’t help matters. But in the 27th minute of extra time, Lauturo MartÃnez broke the deadlock with the strike that would give Argentina their record 16th South American crown.
Design Story:
The match side of the wristband features a design inspired by the 2024 kits worn by La Albiceleste during their run to the trophy. The reverse takes its inspiration from Argentina’s now iconic social media clapback at Drake after he bet against them in the semifinal.
