Description
Match Date: June 22, 1994
Competition: World Cup 1994
Location: Pontiac Silverdome
Match Story:
Both Colombia and the USMNT entered their second Group A match in need of a result, following a loss to Bulgaria and draw with Switzerland respectively. And with Los Cafeteros considered one of the favorites to hoist the title, it seemed quite likely that they would leave Standford Stadium with a crucial three points. But the underdog hosts wore down Colombia with seemingly endless counter-attacks. Those counters eventually forced a fateful own goal from Andrés Escobar, and then Earnie Stewart’s follow-up finish in the second half that was enough to help the Americans pick up a historic win on home turf.
Design Story:
Both sides of the wristband pay homage to the iconic kits worn by the Red, White, and Blue during the 1994 World Cup. The match itself is displayed over a wavy red background reminiscent of the team’s lesser-known home strip, while the reverse was inspired by their famous faux-denim blues.
