Match Date: August 7, 2019
Competition: U.S. Open Cup
Location: Allianz Field
Match Story:
After a difficult first two years in the big leagues, Minnesota’s 2019 season was a revelation. On top of a much-improved performance in the league, they also put together a nice run in the Open Cup. After powering past Kansas City, Houston, and cinderellas New Mexico, the Loons landed a semifinal date with Portland. A Darwin Quintero penalty in the 22nd-minute gave the hosts a lead, but the ax men leveled in first-half injury time. However, their lead was restored for good when Mason Toye cooly finished a Minnesota counter in the 64th minute, sending Minnesota’s club to their first major tournament final.
Design Story:
The match side of the wristband sits over the meandering stretch of the Mississippi River that spans between the Twin Cities. On the reverse, a design featuring the famous bird from which the club — and this wristband — take its nickname.
