Originally birthed from David Beckham’s arrival on America’s soccer shores, the first few years of Miami’s latest existence weren’t easy to stomach. But despite the slow start, the club’s well-connected leaders toiled to construct a grand scheme to lure greatest player of all-time to South Beach: Lionel Messi. Successful in their pursuits, the stage was set for Messi to make his debut against storied Mexican side Cruz Azul. After seeing Robert Taylor put the his team into the lead just before half time, the Argentine star came on for his debut 10 minutes after the half — only to see Miami concede an equalizer shortly thereafter. With time dwindling away and a dour debut seeming increasingly likely, fate intervened. Miami earned a freekick 25 yards from goal in the 94th minute. And then, Leo Messi did a very, very Leo Messi thing.

The match side of the wristband takes its inspiration from the iconic architecture, neon lights, and signage found along its famous South Beach strip. The reverse features a pink and black are deco-styled pattern meant to emulate the feathers of the herons that adorn the club’s crest.
