Match Story:
As the oldest club in Rio de Janeiro whose home is the famous Maracanã, has won four Brazilian national championships, and 33 state championships, it’s long-been surprising that Flu had never hoisted a South American trophy. But the club’s fortunes began to change after ending a 10 year trophy drought with their 32nd and 33rd state crowns in 2022 and 2023. And though being placed in the Copa Libertadores “group of death”, they topped the group and pegged the likes of River Plate, The Strongest, Argentinos Juniors, Olimpia, and Internacional en route to the final where they’d face six-time Copa Libertadores champions Boca Juniors. Star strike Cano provided an opener before halftime, only to see Boca claw one back 20-minutes from the final whistle and send the match to added time. But in the first half of added time, super sub John Kennedy notched a winner and handed Flu their long-awaited International Trophy.
Design Story:
The match side’s geometric design is based on the Brazilian side’s away kit during in 1992 and 1993. The reverse of the wristband features Flu‘s famous burgandy, white, and green stripes.
