Match Date: November 11, 2008
Competition: MLS Cup Final
Location: Historic Crew Stadium

Match Story:
Forever unfancied due to the city’s perceived backwater status in the national soccer spotlight, Columbus put the league on notice in 2008. Lead by MVP midfield magician Guillermo Barros Schelotto, the side captured the regular-season crown before blazing their way to the playoff final against New York. Alejandro Moreno gave the Black and Gold the lead before the Bulls pulled level just after halftime. But a quick response from Chad Marshall moments later, plus a late Frankie Hejduk insurance goal, was enough to secure Columbus — and Ohio — its first taste of soccer glory.

Design Story:
The match side of the wristband is inspired by Ohio’s unique flag. The reverse is also inspired by a flag, this time harkening to the checkboard flag flown by the club’s supporters — a nod to the city’s Germanic roots — and comprised of the number “96” — the year in which the club was founded.
