Match Date: December 7, 2024
Competition: 2024 MLS Cup
Location: Dignity Health Sports Park
Match Story:
Having finished am embarrassing fourth from bottom of the table in 2023, LA needed a major overhaul. The club flipped their roster on its head for 2024, bringing in 20 new players. And it worked: LA tied their regular season win record with 19 by going undefeated at home and seeing 4 players score in double figures. In the playoffs, they brushed aside Colorado and Minnesota before edging out Seattle to advance to the cup final. There they would face the league’s official bridesmaid, New York, one of just two remaining original sides to never win the title. LA would see their hot offensive form continue early in the final, with Paintsil and Joveljić each scoring before a quarter of an hour. The New Yorkers would pull one back before half, but it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the host’s lead giving LA their record sixth championship.
Design Story:
The match side of the design inspired by the home kit they wore during the cup final, featuring the club’s traditional sash behind six stars symbolizing their six league titles. The reverse is also based on an LA kit, taking it’s cues from their throwback-inspired away strip introduced before 2024 season.
