Match Date: July 13, 1930
Competition: 1930 World Cup
Location: Gran Parque Central, Montevideo, Uruguay
Match Story:
Entering the 1930 inaugural World Cup in Uruguay, European critics dismissed the United States as an unpolished squad. And in their opening match, the Americans were paired with an experienced Blegian side that many thought would brush them aside. But when they took to a snowy, freezing pitch in Montevideo… everything change. Playing with a relentless physical grit that the Belgians simply couldn’t match, the Yanks steamrolled their European counterparts. Bart McGhee opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, followed by later goals Tom Florie and Bert Patenaude. And the win set the team on a path to an eventual third place finish, a record that remains the best-ever finish for any CONCACAF nation.
Design Story:
Both sides of the design take their inspiration from the American’s kits for their hosting duties during the 2026 World Cup. The match side is sits atop a field of stars reminiscent of their away kit, while the reverse features the undulating red and 0ff-white stripes of their historically-inspired home strip.
